Greg History

About Me

I like to describe myself as an author, professor, amateur gourmet chef, avid birder and very amateur equestrian. I’m actively writing two more books to follow Leading with Compassion. I teach at the masters level for the University of Maryland Global Campus. My core courses are leadership and strategy. I’ve taught at all three levels at multiple universities. I also teach project management, operations management, sustainability and renewable energy.

Before becoming an author, I was the CEO of a small wind energy firm, a strategic planning consultant for the Federal Government, and an aerospace engineer. I also worked as a contractor to NASA many years building and flying Earth remote sensing satellites.

My Book

I like to say that I am an accidental author. I didn’t set out to write Leading with Compassion as a book. Instead, I was compiling materials for my masters students. I teach leadership, strategy, project management and much more. I’m constantly writing about my experiences teaching, consulting, working as a lay leaders in my church and more to illustrate academic concepts to make them come to life. As I was doing this, I saw a consistent thread coming together and I thought, maybe I could put this together and all of a sudden Leading with Compassion was born.

One more thing...

I’m an unabashed fan of my adopted home, Camden, Maine. If you’re not familiar, scroll to the end and read a little about the town. In my book I used examples from my church because managing in church life is so much harder than managing in business. My church is the Congregational Church of Camden. If you’re not familiar with the denomination, scroll down a little and read about the church. If you are familiar with leading in church life, drop me a line and let me know your stories. I bet you have some good ones too!

Additional Information...

As I mentioned previously, you do not have to be religious or part of any denomination to derive value from the lessons I’ve identified. But I did think you might .....
